Pneumatic Shock Absorbers
Pneumatic shock absorbers are used to damp shocks and absorb and dissipate energy. They consist of a cylinder with a sliding piston. The cylinder is filled with air that has a high energy storage capacity and allows pneumatic shock absorbers to be more compact than other forms. Also called air shock absorbers, these pneumatic shock absorbers convert the kinetic energy absorbed into heat. The heated air is then exhausted.
Shock absorbers are essential to vehicle suspensions, aircraft landing gear, machinery, and other devices where repeated shocks are damaging to equipment.
