Lockout-Tagout
Lockout-Tagout (LOTO) is a safety mechanism used to ensure that machinery is properly shut off and not started up again before maintenance is completed. It involves locking the equipment in a safe position and tagging it to indicate that maintenance is being performed.
Lockout-tagout devices ensure machinery is properly shut off and inoperable during maintenance, repair, and cleaning operations. Lockout tags, padlocks, hasps, and cinch bags lock machinery so workers cannot operate them until they've been unlocked by authorized personnel. They also identify and communicate potential dangers to workers, such as harmful gases or electrical hazards.
